All's well that ends well. A new awareness seems to have come out of your visit to the ER, Clint. Feel better. Hugs.

Thank you, D.C.! I’ve got the awareness…now I need to work harder on the willpower. Oh, to be so stubborn…it’s a superpower. Or something. ;-p

Learning to live. Wonderful learning process, Clint! I rejoice that you see the light and will make important readjustments. (No blame, no shame, remember)

In my youth, I used to believe that my body was there to stop my brains from trailing on the ground when I moved. (How intellectually arrogant! My body was handsome and attractive, though I never worked on it.)

My body is now my beloved friend, truly a part of me now. Yes, I admit that I still do things that are detrimental to my body. Try to be kind and considerate and grateful to it - on the whole it looks after me well in return. Later this month, it will be 78 years old. So many people of similar age keep dying. That isn't as concerning as the deaths I witnessed in younger men about 35 to 40 years ago. It still can foreshadow my own mortality, though. Self love, self care are important.

Thanks for sharing Clint. Re: reducing your sodium (salt) intake, I recently wrote about a study that found that increasing your dietary potassium intake (e.g., eating more bananas and broccoli) can lower blood pressure, even if sodium intake is normal-to-high.

Here's a link to the article I wrote about the study, if you're interested: https://newatlas.com/health-wellbeing/hypertension-dietary-potassium-sodium/

Why thank you, Paul! I’ve gotten some conflicting advice about potassium (and magnesium), so your article was very helpful. Just replenished my banana supply and I plan to be a regular monkey’s uncle very soon…with much lower blood pressure. And banana breath. :-p

Have a great weekend…cheers!

For a few decades I have surmised that plentiful potassium intake could influence

toward a reduction in serum sodium, but my teachers never could actually bring

themselves to tell us that. If the "sodium - potassium pump" system in our cells must

work to maintain the proper concentrations, it just seemed logical that providing

more potassium could help; not to mention that the desire for salt flavor in food

would be satisfied by the potassium chloride.

. Thank you for the article.

Thanks Clint, especially for the "nothing to see here" biggest laugh of the day. It's best to remain calm under all circumstances, and blame Naranja Pendejo, the malignant source of all our hypertension.

Much love and light to you, Larry. Thank you. Making incremental changes seems to be moving the bp numbers in the right direction, so I’ll keep on keeping on. Appreciate the encouragement and support!

Clint, it was very brave of you to share this with your community of friends and admirers. I had a similar moment which demanded my attention 20 something years ago. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes; I managed to cure myself of that through a diet that made me lose 100 lb. Plus I had hypertension; the change in my diet and in my body. Let me lose that problem. I'm telling you this just to let you know that you can get ahead of this and make your life correct. No, it's not. A quick turnaround. No, it's not. I specifically happy time doing this. But you are motivated and I know you can. Clint, I am rooting for you and will always be on your side. Now. Go and start the rest of your life taking care of yourself!

Thank you, dear Martin. A close friend is struggling through Type 2 Diabetes too, so we’re doing our best to support each other. Given my weight, I’m shocked I’m not diabetic too. But a 100 pound weight loss definitely would help my blood pressure. So one day at a time it is…. Cheers to you and yours!

Thanks for sharing. These things really are wake up calls and now it gives you the chance to really be in charge of your health. It can be a very positive change to actively do things to help you be more healthy and look for ways to lower stress. I've been on that journey for many years because of a mild heart attack and that incident probably extended my life. Now get to the fun work of living a healthy life, it doesn't mean you have to give up everything just adapt to a life of moderation and relaxation. Go for it.....

Yeah, it was quite an unexpected trip. Originally, my GP wanted to call an ambulance. “Uber’s are cheaper…don’t you dare care an ambulance or I will have a heart attack!” She chilled. Uber was $12. My ER doctor seemed to nickname me “malignant.” What a smart smartass he was…my kinda peeps! lol

Maybe something happened in your personal life to cause the increase in blood pressure. If that is so, it will self correct eventually. Was having a problem with mine because of a devastating circumstance in my personal life. Blood pressure has now gone down to a more regular level without medication.

Glad your bp is back to normal. Personally, my family is full of hypertensive types. I’ve been on and off medications for a few years. Mostly off. Mostly my own stubborn self. But I’m finally listening and working towards getting those numbers sorted out. Thanks for sharing and caring!

Clint, I am glad it got taken care of in the ER. so follow your own advice. But you know that, often what we know and what we do doesn’t match, but you know that too. I’m 82 and have had 4 heart attacks and one TIA which everyone calls a mini-stroke. Some doctor told me the statistics are you have a 50-50 chance of surviving your first heart attack. Then each subsequent one is 10% less. With 4 under my belt you can do the arithmetic! My point? Don’t ignore your doctor. The odds are not in your favor. Your friends will miss you and we don’t like missing friends.

Clint, always take heed of what your doctor say. I've had two surprises when my blood pressure was going up for no apparent reason I ended up getting a stint in my heart. The second time around I went in with a broken foot and discovered I had AFib. Better living through chemistry diet and exercise. All will be well with time...
