For a few decades I have surmised that plentiful potassium intake could influence
toward a reduction in serum sodium, but my teachers never could actually bring
themselves to tell us that. If the "sodium - potassium pump" system in our cells must
work to maintain the proper concentrations, it just seemed logical that providing
more potassium could help; not to mention that the desire for salt flavor in food
would be satisfied by the potassium chloride.
