Anton, thanks. I did NOT know about the Poles' change in government. That's excellent news! I realize that doesn't turn them into Mykonos East, but even incremental change is good change. I'll have to start paying more attention.

And now, ofc, Poland will be the primary succour of my beloved Ukraine. I think they'll step up to the plate -- they, almost more than anyone (except maybe the Baltic states) know what a Putin victory means.

The good thing about WFH in the modern era is that you can operate from almost anywhere. Good luck!

I can join the millions of Americans who agree with you completely. I'm so mad I can hardly stand it. How stupid can these MAGA people be? They don't check out anything and think everything Trump says is the truth when he lies constantly. The Project 2025 manual alone should have been enough to make every single American drop Trump instantly. IF he actually carries out any notable portion of what the project is planning, the end of our democracy could be in full effect in less than a year. Since they have made the president immune from prosecution, I wish Biden would simply declare the election null and void and arrest Trump and jail him full time while all the trials are done. I know this is not going to happen, but I wish it would. Sadly, we need to remember that 25,000,000 registered Democrats did not bother to vote.

Oh, I think most voted because they don’t give af about democracy. Honestly, I don’t think it’s working for most of us. But I’m not an anarchist. As for the 25M who didn’t vote…I’m not registered to either party and I voted. Neither party seems to represent anyone outside their own leadership, imo. Not saying I don’t agree with one more than the other, but I see the message in the election is: Both parties suck. Mainstream media sucks. And people like reality tv too much.

I feel the same way. I have said since 2016 Hillary Clinton was the dumbest idea ever. She made Trump possible and is indirectly guilty of everything since, Yet the Democrats still cheer her. Bernie Sanders would have been a gamechanger his own party conspired against him. When Hillary Clinton sat on that stage drunk on her own sense of importance and said I don't need Sanders supporters it started a chain of events that drought us to today. Harris maybe well mean did the something choosing that dude from Wisconsin mistake. The Democrats don't get it and I think that's the plan because voters aren't getting anything when the Democrats are in control. I'm done with this country and just going to worry about surviving 4 more years of a Traitor as POTUS.

Wish I could disagree, but I’ve never been a fan of Ms. Clinton or her pomposity. The best thing—in my opinion—the Clinton years gave the country was his fling with the intern. Not because it was helpful in any way but likely kept us mostly out of other conflicts going on around the world. It also helped propped up the clutch the pearlers who ironically form the base of Trump, the felonious, lying rapist and more. Politics…she don’t make no zucking sense. Even less now than ever before imo.

The herd spoke and the predator they engendered and nursed in their entrails will do exactly as he said he would. After all, he now has a mandate. Who knows, maybe he'll spare a few.

I'm no Bible scholar, thumper or Trumper, but this seems apropos of something:

"Like a sheep being led to the slaughter or a lamb that is silent before her shearers, he did not open his mouth." (Isaiah 53:7)

I am not an American, but i really can't believe that the majority of Americans voted for that idiot Trump. I hope God Blesses America. I have always held Americans in the highest esteem, but my views have been shattered. How can so many not see through that lying, cheating, criminal?

There're a number of phenomena that operate more or less independently here in the U.S.

1. Anti-intellectualism -- In the 20-30 or so years after independence a number of French authors, historians, etc. came here to see what kind of country their own government had helped birth. One of the big things many of them noticed was a pervasive distrust of anything even hinting of 'book-learning'. Not much has changed since then.

2. Religious fervor -- Around 1845 some preacher predicted the Second Coming was nigh. Thousands of people sold their houses, businesses, etc to gather in a few places in the midwest. Unfortunately, the guest of honor didn't get the memo and never showed up. There's surprisingly little written (that I can find) about what happened to these tens of thousands of people. My gut is that their descendants are a large part of the MAGA crowd. It kind of fits the theory of Inter Generational Trauma: Immense anger that nobody seems to know a reason for, the feeling of having been ripped off without knowing exactly what was stolen.

3. Semmelweiss Reflex -- It's endemic here in the U.S. You simply can't talk to those who've been hit with it.

4. Deep seated distrust of government. Go research what happened when the federal government first implemented an income tax in 1913 or thereabouts.

5. Numerous social cleavages that run along very similar lines. Ask an American his position on 2 or 3 social issues and that tells you his position on a half dozen more.

6. Our country was settled largely by religious fanatics and social misfits. There's a semi-joke about this:

Q: Why is there so little ADHD in Europe?

A: They all went to the New World. And today the least densely populated states have the highest per capita consumption of ADHD meds.

7. Poplation mixing stopped. Until WWII men went into the military or higher education then came home and married the girl next door. In WWII thousands of single woman joined the armed forces as nurses, secretaries, etc. Most of them married soldiers and moved to a town/city between their original home towns. So the best/brightest/most ambitious left and did not come back.

I could go on and on and on about similar things.....

Thoughts, anyone?

All great points. One I think you likely forgot—cuz we’ve all been trying—is the Civil War never really ended. While it ended, Lincoln’s assassination and the revisionist “historians” like Daughters of the Confederacy made sure southern “heritage” would be loud and proud for generations to come. I grew up in the south and remember those monuments in town squares and asking my dad “Weren’t they on the wrong side of history?” He’d nod and sigh. Pride, prejudice, and willful ignorance is way more American than apple pie. Sad but true.

Thanks, Richard. I've lost several formerly reasonable people to his cult and I can't understand anything that comes out of their mouths. I get being a conservative, but this is a whole new level of hate and ignorance I thought was a thing of the past. Evidentally the Civil War (from 1865) never ended for some...it was just a cancer in remission and it's gonna kill a lot more people before it's eventually eradicated. With Trump, he'll say and do anything to feed his ego. Which is sadly common amongst a slim majority of Americans. I'm disgusted at the self-righteous bullshit they spout. I can't...even. Anyone believing a bankrupt spoiled rich kid is a self-made billionaire who cares about them and their problems has more issues than the National Geographic. Fingers crossed he and his trip and fail/fall on the way to the inauguration.

I should never have underestimated the racism & misogyny of the American voter.

Like you, I plan on taking a break from things political for a while -- it will be a minute before I can process it.

I will, however, start discussing with others about what we can do to throw sand into the gears of Project 2025. When they come for us -- &, yes folks, they will -- I want them to pay a price.

Meanwhile, I've been telling my younger friends to get out while they can. One of the very first ads on my feed this morning was a pitch to "Retire to Portugal" -- people worldwide understand what just happened.

So, thanks as always, Clint. Your creativity gives much solace in this "annus horribilus."

I've been looking myself for options abroad. I have credentials in shortage areas in Canada, but I'm 60 and need to work online if I'm going to work full time. I qualify for a green card in Poland but that might be problematic in other ways, starting with Putin. OTOH, they have booted their version of MAGA out of power and demographics make their return unlikely.

Please take care of yourself, boo. And keep coming up with gems like "annus horribilus." We're gonna need those kind of gems to keep us charged through this shitshow.

Yup Clint, the message suits the occasion and I hope it does indeed get better for you 🇺🇸 Here it's first party past the post that's the winner and the handover of power is immediate once the winning leader is asked by the King (in this instance) to form a government and not take 6 months hand over like you have, I think. Cheers DougT 🇫🇴

Here the Biden administration has 2 & 1/2 months to 'trump-proof' as much of the federal government as possible. I'd like to think they started months ago on this. I also hope Biden empties all of our military storage facilities and sends all of it to Ukraine.

While I'm not a fan of the monarchy, I do appreciate that kind of efficiency. Though in this case, I have some opinions about his fate I should probably keep to myself. So thoroughly disgusted. Off to make a video to cheer myself up some.
