I agree. But, for me, we are not divided selves but a fluid mix, a changeable kaleidoscope. Not shades of grey but colours, pale pastels, dark murkinesses, or vibrantly startling colours.
You’re so right. Since so many have trouble understanding the concept of greyscale, I opted to keep things monochrome. But I prefer BIG boxes of colors and heat to mix and mingle all the crayons together. Cheers!
You all are so learned. I somehow managed to get through 12 years of schooling with no art, music, or movement whatsoever. What little I do know is from having interpreted Intro Art History 101 3 times, lol.
Oh, Anton…like you, I had little to no formal training. It’s mostly DIY edu-my-cation via books, podcasts, museums visits, and friends who are far more learned and creative than I am. Cheering you on towards whatever you wanna know and learn!
Sigh. I KNOW I comment too frequently, but I had to tell you how much I learn from your posts.
Because of your "Birthdays" listing I did deep dives into both Flaubert & Munch. I had no idea about Flaubert's STDs & (basically) pansexuality.
The Munch, however, was AMAZING! I never knew about his landscapes -- they are *stunning.* Put them in an art gallery & I would have thought they were by Gainsborough or Turner. They are so unlike what I thought about him.
So, keep up the great work, my friend -- every part of your message has an impact.
Thanks, Tom! Know I always appreciate your kind, thoughtful comments. And I'm so glad you find some folks to dive into. I don't know much about Flaubert's life, but have read some of his work. And Munch...I love his art and his life. Such an interesting guy. Handsome too. Cheers and have a lovely day!
Choosing. Haerisis, if I got the transcription of the Greek correct (probably not): "heresy," in the bare meaning of the word. I'm with you. Heresy it is.
Whatever justice is, fwiw, I seriously doubt that it involves lakes of fire and eternal punishment for people who earnestly try for the good, but can't fulfill ridiculous norms. The four most powerful words in English, to my mind, are: "I do not know." Not used often enough.

Hurrah for rainbows!

Heresy is Greek to me. Anything remotely religious is above my pay grade. lol
As for "I don't know," there's PLENTY I don't know. But I'm not always wise enough to stfu about it. :-p
