Oh, don't buy the hype. LA is a big, sprawling mess of a city. No rhymes and few reasons. There are "glamorous" parts, but most are so filled with no-taste nouveau riche I can't take them serious. That said, there are some truly stunning historic (for CA) neighborhoods. Pasadena has some of the coolest Arts and Crafts homes in the world. In my limited experience...and one of my favorite museums: Norton Simon. Glad I live so close. :-)
