A closeted college kid treating Sandra Bernhard like required coursework is very funny and very real. Queer culture really did arrive through the oddest little delivery systems: a professor from New York, a remainder bin, a performance that made no attempt to explain itself, and suddenly the world got bigger. ☺️
Oh it was so mighty real, Gino. I’d listen to the CD, jot down names and places I didn’t know, and head over to the library to look them up. I graduated in 1993, right before the World Wide Web truly changed everything. Glad I had to dig for some of that knowledge. Cheers!
You know I offer these kinds of people and works because I love them. Without expecting anyone else to love them back. I’m sure you have a myriad of references I wouldn’t “get” immediately. But I love your empathy and strength, dear one. :-*
We have many similarities but also many differences, my dear. We are of different generations, different nations, as well as individual life experiences, and we are different individuals (united on a spiritual dimension ultimately).
That’s awesome, Eric. Glad to know a fellow fan. Sandyland is a beautiful place to visit! I am a little jealous you got to see the Sylvester piece performed live. It’s my favorite! :-)

I think that I am relatively oblivious to popular culture. I experience some of it but perhaps do not engage with it as much as many others do.
My empathy is strong, deep and diffuse. I usually protect or shield myself from the myriad of other people. Otherwise, I would feel overwhelmed.
Sandra, like many other US icons, have never impacted on me.

We will never "get" everything about one another.
We love each other, too.
I got the album when it was new (I worked at a record store), the Sylvester section was amazing to this newlwy out baby gay.
I also saw her perform it live, she was amazing!

Clint, Sandra Bernhard would be fan club member! Fondly, Michael
I dunno about that, but I’m definitely a member of her fan club. Sandyland forever! 🤩🌈✌️
👍 but nowhere on my radar 😕 Cheers DougT 🏴🇬🇧
She wasn’t on my radar either, but now I keep an ear to the ground for chances to see her live. Sandy is quite an experience, especially live. Cheers!
