It doesn't have be gay; it can brotherly, friendly or whatever, Women socially kiss each other (well, I don't rate air-kissing much). I have visited countries where men kiss socially on meeting or parting, hold hands while walking or talking. It makes me feel happy for humankind.
It was a key part of my leadership of men's encounter groups in my 20s and again when I taught and led re-evaluation co-counselling in my 40s. "The undistressed emotional response between any two people is to love each other". I used to tease men by saying, "All men are sisters under their skins, so kiss each other". Only when I thought they could receive such a message.
