A much older friend of mine, retired after 30 years in the U.S. Army (Colonel) P.O.W. of the Japanese in WW II, headmaster of a respected military academy preparatory school, and Republican; could not stand Anita Bryant. He referred to her as "that woman" and declared her to be self-aggrandizing and artificial. I never understood why until years later, but was pleasantly surprised by his prescience as I learned more. I also learned that he was more of a friend to me than I realized as a teen-ager, and I am grateful.
. He would be appalled and outraged by the depredations being perpetrated against our Federal structure, national reputation and, especially, Department of Defense by the current criminal occupant of the Federal Executive Mansion.
Sounds like an old-school Republican, which I’ve had the pleasure of knowing a few. Even when we’ve disagreed on policy, we’ve respected each other. And in my experience, true conservatives want nothing to do with this neo-conservative con that bigots and zealots used to take over the once-principled Republican Party.
As I hope I’ve made clear, I respect true conservatives. It’s the neocons and their bullying bs that disgust me. We can disagree without being disagreeable. Also, we need a full spectrum of ideas to help us find common ground and common sense solutions. Cheers, Sam!
Ever a boy born in the wrong century, the color combinations you mention were always painful to me. In drama school, I excelled in my stage makeup class, and (for instance) could produce a reasonable resemblance for the stage of FDR on almost any face. Someone is obviously unwilling to listen to anyone on that topic. Oompa Loompa! ROFL. Yes, less orange is good for the soul.
Ramble at will, Doug! I don’t mind a little retro—or even a little orange—but I like to mix and match it with other decades. Eclectic seems to be my style. A purist I never was and will never be. :-p

Pax vobiscum.

Absolutely! I was one, once, and am still a conservative who believes we need
incremental steady change toward new ideas.

FDR is a good “natural look” for most stage productions. Go, Clarke!
