“How were you to know
That you would be the lucky one
Ain't it funny how time flies
When the best was yet to come”

In Back to the Future fashion, November 5, 2024, could be the day the United States of America gets transported back to the worst parts of 1955—or it could be the day we realize better days can be ahead…if we move forward together.
Like a lot of people, I’m feeling a lot of anxiety, dread, hope, and worry this Election Day. The same mixed emotions I’ve had since at least 2000.
My stomach’s in knots, nerves buzzing just under the surface. It’s not going to be an easy day for me to focus, so I’ve planned accordingly.
Comedian Adam Conover may be right that worrying doesn’t help anything, but I’m an expert-level worrier. Maybe you are too?
As much as I love ephemera and photos from the past, I live in the here and now. So I’m hopeful we can collectively move toward a better future and resist those trying to turn back the clocks to the Dark Ages. Frankly, one time change this week is more than enough.
When it comes to the candidates, let’s be real: neither will cure all that ails us.
If Trump wins, we know the score. Based on his own words—and past actions and inactions—he will do his best to stoke division and attempt to repeat some of the worst moments in world history.
If Harris wins, she’ll likely invite more voices to the table, working together to improve our “imperfect union.” However, relying on focus groups isn’t always the best solution. Oftentimes, groupthink just leads to more confusion, mess, and noise.
Whoever wins, this election won’t fix everything. But it could break more shit. So I’m holding onto hope that, at the very least, reasonable minds will prevail, and maybe—just maybe—we’ll wake up tomorrow with a clear, decisive direction forward for the country. Fingers crossed.
This afternoon, I plan to sign off early and dive into the election coverage, starting with MeidasTouch on YouTube.
If you’re not familiar,
is an independent, progressive media group that's popular on both YouTube and Substack. Since I consider mainstream media complicit in creating a more divided country by chasing dollars over delivering fact-based news, I’ve decided to tune into a newer network on this historic night.“If they succeed, you'll miss the lightning bolt at the clock tower, you won't get back to the future, and we'll have a major paradox!”
"Doc" Brown = Back to the Future
Wishing us all brighter futures, fewer paradoxes, and stronger stomachs.
Thanks for reading!

Now this was the theme tune to our 🇫🇴🇬🇧 General Election in 1997 when the Labour party triumphed over the Conservative (Tories) party in a magnificent landslide, the same as this years election. So I hope you all get your dreams fulfilled whatever your politics leaning. Also it's nearly 18:00 on Bonfire night when Guy Fawkes attempted to gunpowder blow up the parliament and the King. So fireworks are in the air and bonfires are being lit. Cheers DougT 🇫🇴
I suspect I'll end up with the Meidas Mighties as the polls start to close around 7. I'm trying not to get sucked in before that -- I already have high blood pressure & any of us could write his script for the next few days.
What I'm hoping (& working) for is something so overwhelming that NO normal person could argue otherwise. His agents, militias, propaganda channels -- both TV & radio, & his dark money folks are hard at work even today claiming "abuse" before the results are announced. I've had 9 years of anger & angst -- I can hold off 7 or 8 more hours.
Meidas, Democracy Now, Copium, & a few others keep me sane. I'm certain they'll have a hard job doing so if this somehow drags out over a month. Marc Elias reminds me that our guys are out there fighting too. They're just not tooting their own horns like the other side does.
I am completely sure we will win today. I'm not so sanguine about Inauguration. As my Leader points out, "when we fight, we win!" I'm just keeping my eyes on the prize & will do whatever is asked to ensure she is sworn in.
So, gird your loins, guys, we still have some dark days ahead. Stay calm & fight back.
Thanks to you, Clint, for supplying us with a wonderful place to focus our thoughts when the stress threatens to overwhelm us!
Good luck to us & I hope I'll be dancing in the streets later!
