As much of a hermit as I can be, I love getting out and about whenever possible…and practical. Especially on Sundays.
There’s something about a Sunday that makes me want to get out of my little studio apartment, put on something other than my “I’m not going anywhere today” uniform, and get the hell out of Dodge.
It doesn’t have to be anything particularly exciting. I’m not talking about elaborate plans, expensive brunches, or some epic Sunday Funday itinerary.
Sometimes “getting out” means wandering around a museum, grabbing a coffee, checking out a neighborhood, going for a drive, doing a little people watching, or simply finding somewhere pleasant to sit outside and read a good book for a while.
Basically, I plan to get out and touch grass, y’all. And I hope you do too, boo!
I spend plenty of time at home. I’m perfectly capable of entertaining myself for hours with my computer, my creative projects, YouTube, a good rabbit hole, or whatever random thing has currently captured my attention. And it’s certainly no secret that I really, really like being “homo alono.”
But there’s a difference between being a homebody and becoming a piece of furniture.
Getting out into the world, even for a little while, does something for me. A change of scenery shakes loose the cobwebs. Seeing other people reminds me that there is, in fact, a whole world happening beyond my little corner of it. Sometimes the simplest outing can provide a little inspiration, a funny story, a new idea, or simply a reminder that life is meant to be experienced rather than endlessly observed through a screen.
After spending so much time feeling confined by my own thoughts, routines, and four walls, I’ve come to appreciate the freedom of simply being able to say, “Hey, let’s go!”
No grand plan. No particular destination. Just go.
And Sundays seem particularly well suited for it. Saturday can feel like the day when you’re supposed to do things. Sunday feels different. Softer. Slower. A little more let’s see what happens.
So get dressed. Get outside. Get some sunshine. Look at some trees. Browse some art. Eat something delicious. Say hello to somebody. Wander around without a particularly compelling reason. Let your brain encounter something other than the same four walls and the same websites.
Get out and touch grass.
You might discover something. You might meet someone. You might get a little inspiration. Or you might simply spend a few hours reminding yourself that you’re part of a world that exists beyond your screen.
And if you happen to encounter another gay along the way? Even better.
Because Sundays are for fun, gays!
So go forth. Have a little adventure. And don’t forget to be fabulous.
Keep calm and carry on…
