Further update Clint, I dug out that Nikon Coolpix 2500 digital camera, changed it up and bingo it still works!!! Got is around 2001/2 and there were still some images on the Memory Card. Trouble is the Operating System is soooo 2000's it's like going back into the dark ages. No on screen finger actions, just reminds me how far the digital technology has evolved 😲 Now if I can take some pics of it in the 'selfie' mode etc and post on here it will be educational to you Clint🤔 The screen is a whopping 1.5" a whole 2 mpx and a 3xzoom with a 9xoptical zoom (I think) However apparently that model is something of a design item these days and sell on EBAY Maybe there is hope yet for a few bucks for Christmas 😎 Now I must rummage more to try and find that film Kodak camera I have somewhere. Cheers DougT

That’s awesome, Doug! Glad you found a little photographic history. And it looks like it’s selling on eBay for around $70 here in the US. Fingers crossed it sells for even more and will finance a few visits to the pub. You deserve many happy hours, kind sir! Good luck on finding the other camera. I’m in a similar boat with all my gear. Where DID I put that other box of lenses and such?! :-P

Spent the weekend with a buddy and we both love cameras and took a lot of photos and we didn’t think about megapixels once haha

Clint Collide's avatar

Funny how that works, huh? What ya shooting and shooting with? Perhaps we need a Pixel Peeper Escape Club! :-p

I use a Nikon ZFC, and my buddy was shooting with a little Ricoh point and shoot, whatever the name of that is! Hah

Oooh…I’m eyeballing the Nikon ZF and ZFC. And hoping my trusty Ricoh GRII will come back to life soon. Waiting on a replacement screen. You guys have good taste in gear! :-)

I got the ZFC because it reminded me of my dad's old Pentax K-1000... I wanted something with some knobs and dials, cuz I wanted to actually adjust the ISO and aperture and all that stuff. Again, I don't really know what ALL THAT means, but getting better at it haha

Reminds me of my dad’s Minolta (something or other). I’ve mostly owned Sony cameras for the past decade. But I have to admit I’ve loved what I can capture with them, but not actually shooting with them. In my opinion, they lack a bit of style and soul. Going to the camera store shortly to see what the ZF and ZFC feel like in my hand.

Duhh folks I'm a dimwit with photography. Can't get the hang of an F2 lens being the beesknees. When the were. However an aunt worked for a well known 🇬🇧 chain of chemist shops and she got me a Kodac compact bellows fronted F2 lensed camera the body sheathed in leather. Probably still got it somewhere 😯 Needed to flip down the bellows and the lens, and adjusting rings popped out. Had to load the film into the back, wind it on and it was ready. I think you got 25 negatives from a roll of film. Of course it then needed to be taken to be processed before you discovered your cock ups 😯 That's the advantage of digital, it's instantaneous. I also sneakily got a Polaroid camera as a young teen. No need to smirk at the back of the classroom Clint. I also bought a Nikon digital camera way back in early 2k's Cleaver lil thing as the lens bit could be rotated, making it an early selfie camera. Pathetic 2" LCD screen but it was popular with others from work who were into photography. Now my mobile phone has 108mp main lens, storage 256gb, built in AI, battery life tremendous and I only use it for tinternet and phone calls, 😎😁👍Anyways cheers DougT🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

What a fun gift from your aunt. Film photography was so magical, though I much prefer digital now. The convenience alone makes it worth it. I’m sure your photos are quite charming. Like the rest of you, Mr. Thompson!

Awww thank Mr Clint

I have an amigo who used to be a commercial photographer, is now retired, doing what he does for the fun of it. Likely not as old as me, probably older than you. Publishes on a substack, great stuff. Large format and truly odd cameras, b&w and more, develops his own non-electric film stock. I'm sure he'd sympathize with your equipment conundrum.

Couldn't find his Substack. If you have the URL, lemme know. Thanks again!

Thanks, Clarke. I’ll see if I can find his Substack too. Always love seeing what fellow shutterbugs, especially retired ones, are up to. Cheers!

Clint, Fun post. I actually watched the video and was surprised that the supposed experts didn't have a clue! I have a small Sony which is a smaller, silver zoom in the drawer, a Lumix GF1 which looks like an old fashioned camers, and my brand new iPhone 17 Pro Max running iOS 26.1. Obviously since I always carry my iPhone, it is the one I use. For a long time now I decided to leave the Sony and the Lumix behind because I didn't want to schlep all the background equipment necessary. If I remember correctly, the Sony is a 5 megapixel and the Lumix is an 8 megapixel and the iPhone which is a 12 megapixel. While the clarity of the photos with the iPhone is great, I too begin to think that the number of megapixels isn't as important as the person's "eye" who is taking the photos. What a lot to reply! As always, thanks, Fondly, Michael

Thanks, Michael. I’m glad I’m not the only one with a drawer full of older cameras. Now that some of them are worth more than I paid for them, I’m almost ready to sell them off. I’m hopefully my 10-year-old Ricoh is fixable. Just waiting to see if the new replacement screen will do the trick when it arrives. Fingers crossed. I love my iPhone, but prefer shooting on a “real” camera…that doesn’t beep and chirp at me all the time. 🤪📸 Cheers!

Clint, I believe you can turn off the beeps and chirps but I know what you mean. I FEEL more profesional when I use the Lumix GF1! Fondly, Michael
