A big, BIG THANK YOU to all who sent me kind, supportive messages about my āProject Lower Blood Pressure.ā
If I havenāt replied to you yet, donāt worryāI will very soon⦠ā¤ļøāš©¹š§”šššš
Youāve all made this process feel less like a lonely health quest and more like a community-powered reboot.
I see you, and I appreciate you!
Yesterday was my day off, and I spent most of it catching up on some much-needed sleep. Naps do a body, mind, and spirit good! Weāre talking drool-on-the-pillow power naps that were almost as delicious as the deep-dish pizzas I dreamed about.
Fucking pizzasā¦I love them so. But theyāve definitely contributed to my āmalignantā blood pressure problem. But dreams are āno salt added,ā right? So, going forward, I will only be partaking on occasion and in moderation.
Once I emerged from my nap cocoon, I started diving into the reality that some things I need to shift in my daily routineāsome in a big way, others in more subtle tweaks.
Most of it comes down to how I eat, how I exercise, and how I deal with stress.
Spoiler #1: Stress tends to make me sassyā¦and salty too.
I needed to figure out how much sodium Iāve actually been consumingāand wow. Once I started actually reading labels and doing my restaurant meals, the sodium levels are out of control and totally ridiculous.
My weakness is salty and sweet processed foods. And anything found at my local diner or drive-thru.
What Iām quickly learning is that guilty pleasures have got no rhythmā¦or space in my life. At least not on a daily basis. Thereās a new sheriff in town!
Spoiler #2: Sodium can be sneaky AF and lurks in almost everything.
But hereās the surprising partāitās not as hard to cut back as I thought. Not easy, exactly, but definitely not impossible. Once I realized I had more choices I like than I thought, the fear and fog lifted, and I saw the silver linings.
Iām now on a mission to enjoy more jammy jams (aka calming, feel-good music I can groove and move to) and fewer salty saltsānot just in food, but also in how I handle stress, conflict, and my internal pressure cooker that can easily boil over.
One of my favorite destress jams is Adore Delanoās DTF. The song and the music videos are both bangers in my book. They help keep my boogie woogie woogie-ing.
While I may be DTF (Down To F*ck) on occasion, Iām always DTF (Down To Friday). For me, Fridays are a chance to wind down, get back into rhythm, and choose chill over chaos. Just in time for the weekend.
So hereās to more softness, more music, and more laughs.
Also hereās to less sodium, less stress, and less grrrr.
Letās make this day happen, yāall!
