Ok sleepy head here is a bit of LA history for ya. You probably knew it. Lots of 🌴 in one of my preferred Spanish Mediterranean resorts of Salou and a few years back the Palm weavil bug managed to come over from N Africa and many had to be sacrificed to stop the weavil. The authorities had to plant mature palms to fill in the gaps. Elche city near Alicante (Spain) is famous for it's Palm gardens/plantations and is a UNESCO world heritage site now. Great video, Doug! I knew some of the history, but definitely a few things. My most recent house had a TALL palm tree sitting a few feet from my bedroom. The fronds always seemed to fall off in the middle of the night. Which was a bit scary…those things crash to the ground. Love the look of the trees, but loathe the mess they leave. And so many of them have been damaged by wind and fire over the years. During the LA Riots (1960s and 1990s) many trees were set on fire and became giant tiki torches. Sad. I suspect what the cities won’t replace will continue to show up in landscape designs for a long time to come. The tree orchards out past Palm Springs are awe-inspiring. Thanks for sharing, kind sir.
