Thanks! Iām missing my t-shirt version of it, so might need to reorder. I love me some Miss Holly. I had the pleasure of working with her on a project years ago. What a hoot she was!
Do you know Clint, if I were to find myself single now, I'd stay there!! The thought of dating in this digital age fills me with horror. I'm a very lucky lady, I found my Sunday love 41 years ago, when people still "met by chance".
Thank you, Tracey! Congrats on sustaining you Sunday kinda of love all these years. Iāve missed seeing you the past few weeks, but we can reconnect soon. Iāll miss this weekās live, but should be back next week. Cheers!
Well Clint, š„ to you. We š«š“š¬š§ had our clocks go backwards this Sunday, it's already dark at 17:00 it's also a wet/damp and cold Sunday. Your clock back is next weekend I think. These things get to us/me when we're not 21 any more. It would have been good if it had been a bright clear day instead. Next will be the SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) syndrome rolling in......š„ŗ So get your arse into gear, shake your tail feathers for your Acapulco bound cruise (will ya get that far BTW?) Me, I'll be hunkering down for the winter ā and not even able to have a week's holiday on the Canary islands as a lot of ,š¬š§šŖšŗ do especially the š crowd to Gran Canary island, 4hr flight time off the Atlantic coast of North Africa. Cheers for now DougT š«š“š¬š§
Hugs back atcha, time shifter! I forgot it was that time of the year already. And after looking it up, youāre rightā¦we change time next weekend. While weāre on the cruise. That should be interesting. And confusing. Hereās to a smooth time change and preparation for a long, gray winter. Hopefully, youāve got some UV lights to help fend off the SAD stuff. As for the cruise, we only go so far south as Ensenada. Iām not planning to do any excursions. The ship itself is big enough to explore, so I plan on taking advantage of it while everyoneās off playing tourist. Cheers!
Thanks Clint and Etta James and Happy Birthday Mahalia and Anthony Rapp. Mahalia is still an important presence in Chicago. Although she usually wore loose fitting gowns in public, privately she wore plaid checked shirts and jeans, now considered a lesbian uniform. My favorite Mahalia Jackson - His Eye Is On The Sparrow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM_JRAPSwVM
WOW! Iāve never heard/seen this performance before. Thank you, Steve! I didnāt grow up going to church, but have a deep love for gospel music. Go figure. As for Ms. Jackson, I wouldnāt be surprised if she wasnāt āfamilyā in the LGBTQ sense. All I know for sure is she was an amazing vocalist!
In those days, women were not allowed to wear slacks in church, especially not blue jeans. Mahalia liked to do variations on the songs, which Thomas Dorsey, who wrote Precious Lord, found irritating while playing the piano for her. Later, Mildred Falls was her accompanist for 25 years. In "Sparrow" the lyrics are I sing because I'm happy, I sing because I'm free. In the linked version , I sing because God made me free. In another version, I sing because God made Us free, Also He's watching over me became He's watching over you and me.
Thanks for sharing these feelings on a day like today. I have felt these (especially on Sunday afternoons). Sending you all the good vibes today Clint. the music choices were also great. Thank you for sharing them. Really loving your posts since coming on here. Un abrazo.
Clint, I wish the same for you. You would make a wonderful, thoughtful, feeling, hugging boo! I know how important it is to have one, mine lasted 41 years until he moved on to his next life and adventure and that has left me full, filled with memories and a love that continues. Fondly, Michael
Thank you, Michael. Iām inspired by the longevity of your relationship and your continued love of his legacy and spirit. Me? Iāve had a few long-ish relationships and not sure Iām built for the long haul. I believe we all have a different kind of destined journeyā¦and isnāt over (or obvious) until the fat lady sings. And Iām not talking about no drag queens lip syncing at the local bar. :-p
Yes, Different destined journeys. Hopefully my "fat lady" won't sing for a while yet. I have too much to do. Isn't that always the excuse. Fondly, Michael P.S. Looking forward to reports about your cruise ... and I'm not talking about drag queens at the local bar!
I sense youāre gonna, like FAME, live forever, Michael. Youāve got many lessons to remind and teach us. As for those pretty āladiesā at the bar, they deserve our time, attention, and support too. Cuz I would hate to get read for filth by some of them. I wasnāt raised by wolves, but I did come out with the help of a few drag queens. :-p
I ironically they helped me and my coming out as well. One of them, with whom I fell head over heals in love while I was just comng out and sneaking into the drag bars in Chicago as an āunderageā, was a role model - she as a woman - me as a man. I will have to write a piece about her, my Roxanne!
Love that poster of Holly, C!

Iād buy Miss Mahaliaās variations over Taylor Swiftās any day. Every day.
Clint, I think you gave voice to what many single men feel in later years. Your clarity and emotional depth are much appreciated.
Thank you, my dear. Iām glad Iām not the only one who wakes us and want to be the big (or little) spoon. :-p
