I woke up wishing I had a boo.
At least for the day.
At least for this Sunday.
Maybe it’s the weather. Maybe it’s the quiet before the cruise. Maybe it’s the change of season that makes me crave cuddles, conversation, and the slow kind of love that lingers like a good song.
If singer-songwriter Marc Broussard were gay and single, he would be my kind of candidate for Prince Charming. He’s handsome and talented, easy on the eyes and the ears. I like a scruffy-gruffy man. Swoon me a river…
The way Broussard’s soulful voice covers Etta James’ “Sunday Kind of Love” curls my toes and stirs something magical inside me. That song gets it. It’s not about fireworks or flings. It’s about wanting someone who stays. Someone who feels deeply.
But these days, love—or even a decent date—feels more like a digital treasure hunt.
Maybe it’s the upcoming cruise or the thought of another night out at the local gay bar, but I’ve been thinking a lot about the modern ways we look for love.
The apps. The websites. The swipes. The taps. The endless bios filled with carefully curated “truths.” The bots and scammers who slide into your DMs with fake abs and faker intentions. The local guys you wish would move away before you even meet them. And then—because the universe loves irony—the ones you fall for at first sight.
There are the open relationships that promise freedom but sometimes deliver chaos and confusion. The single ladies who just wanna have fun but leave a trail of tears in their wake. The lists of likes and dislikes, interests and hobbies, that read more like resumes than real introductions.
It’s a jungle out there—or maybe a desert.
Either way, it’s not easy to find a Sunday kind of love.
Still, I hold out hope. Not the naïve kind, but the seasoned kind. The kind that believes love shows up when you least expect it—at the bar, on a boat, or maybe even while singing along to Marc Broussard in your living room, iPad in hand, and chatting with a new guy who might be your next boo.
As much as I roll my eyes at what passes for “dating” these days, I know this:
A Sunday kind of love isn’t about apps or algorithms.
It’s about timing.
It’s about readiness.
It’s about staying open, even when you’re tired of trying.
So here’s to hoping that someday—maybe even one Sunday—I’ll wake up not wishing for love, but curled up next to it.
Keep calm and keep hope (and love) alive!
