The Depression wasn't the only thing Harding set us up for. Isolationism never works. People say,"I don't care. " The problem with that it that thing they don't care about does get up and go away.

'A stitch in time saves nine.' .... Isolationists are the type determined to stitch all ten and then blame someone else that they weren't warned earlier when in fact they usually were...... usually repeatedly.

And now the event outside our borders most likely to affect us is fading from the news and increasingly treated as a nuisance when mentioned. Funny, the countries bordering this event are buying up every piece of arms on the planet. Maybe after their 500 plus years of experience they know ksmething we don't.

Yep yep yep...I'm continually amazed at how short-sighted we collectively are. Sad. "Imperfect union"? That's aspirational at best.

It is highly unlikely that the current top-down way of running things will change substantially, no matter who "wins." Either person will be holding onto the mess that will be handed to them. I wish them (and us) good luck with that!

Agreed. So much of our election process and two-party reliance is disgustingly inefficient and ineffective, set up to maintain status quo and give lip service to democracy. That said, there's a clear frontrunner in this election in my book. Not everyone agrees obviously. Hence...elections. lol

There are LOTS of parallels between the Republican candidates for office in 1920 & 2024. Harding's White House & Cabinet were hotbeds of notorious corruption, with Congressional investigation culminating in the Teapot Dome scandal. Harding "had an eye for the ladies," as they called it prior to #MeToo. One of his mistresses wrote a book detailing how they carried on in the White House. There was talk of an illegitimate child. All of this was publicized by "opposition" newspapers -- & was the talk of the country. Things didn't look good for his re-election. To shore up his political support, he took a train tour/early campaign swing throughout California with his wife, the indomitable Florence. One night he died. Wags, ofc, wondered if Florence finally had enough -- but that was just talk.

Plus ca change; plus ca le meme chose!

I had heard bits of this, but forgot about it. I can barely what happened in last week’s “news” cycle. But thank you for the refresher. Lots of populist con men are good at sayings but terrible at leadership. Always falls to the next administration to clean up their mess. Fingers crossed…maybe Melania will join him on some last-minute campaign stops. And put a stop to him once and for all. I’m so tired of hearing his name and thinking about his ugh-ly reality.

Clint And all your fellow 🇺🇸 I hope you all vote with your consciousness and not from rhetoric of the spout-a-lot or the I-have-the -loudest-voice-and-the-biggest-gun/wallet pundits. This election has even got the 🇬🇧🇫🇴 media covering it as if it was a 🇫🇴🇬🇧 election. Cheers DougT 🇫🇴

The media loves this clusterfuck/shitshow because they helped create and profit off it. Don the Con is garbage. So are his politics and cult of personality. The country needs one giant intervention…to make any of it make sense. Cheers, Doug.

Given some of the billionaire donors and state-sponsored misinformation machines at play, wtf knows anymore. It’s scary…intentionally so. The Chaos Monster loves this like a pig in slop.
