Yesterday, in the middle of editing a project, CapCut decided to update itself. Okay. Fine. I took it as a sign to take a break.
After the update and break, my project file would not open. At all. Cue the frustration.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. I tried installing update after update. I tried restarting everything. All to no avail.
So I tried reaching out to support. The AI bot was as useless as a third nipple. And the human responses weren’t much better. I dug through forums, watched tutorials, tried every fix I could find.
After two hours of trials and errors, I started seeing posts that others were having similar problems with the update too. When a fix would roll out was anyone’s guess.
Ready to start over if necessary, I downloaded DaVinci Resolve, my backup video editor, again.
I’ve never really loved DaVinci Resolve. It is powerful, no question. It’s got a full suite of professional-level tools. It’s also got a steep learning curve.
But when your livelihood depends on a piece of software working, whether or not I love an application is beside the point. Reliability matters more than preference.
Twenty-four hours may not sound like much. But in a creative workflow, time is not just time. Or money. It’s rhythm. It’s momentum. And when that rhythm breaks, everything feels off, like the record skipped and you’re left scrambling to find the beat again.
This morning, after yet another update, CapCut finally opened up my projects again. Everything was intact. The relief was immediate.
I am back to work today. But the close-call fears linger.
“Pro” software only feels professional when it is reliable. The moment it fails, the distance between productive and powerless becomes painfully small.
I hope CapCut doesn’t repeat their mistake. But, for now, we’re good again.

Sometimes waiting for the glitch to cure itself works. Sometimes it doesn't. My building engineer just left after trying to fix my GFI outlet in the kitchen. Didn't work! He will be back tomorrow. But meanwhile that whole wall of the kitchen doesn't work. I moved my coffee pot to the island counter and am ready for tomorrrow morning. The gift is that I will have to go out to eat tonight! I'm glad to hear that your work was still intact after whatever CapCut did. Also, I imagine that it does give some relief to find that others had similar issues with the software. "But in the creative workflow, time is not just time." I find that sometimes, in the creative workflow, time does not exist. Carry on Clint!
