That is part of the challenge for we who are highly sensitive and imaginative Deeply Intuitives. Our feelings, imaginations and intuitions have a precious quality which cannot be easily satisfied by the real world or the people in it.
The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and other such movies can be enjoyed but they do not match our inner world. They fall short of what we ourselves recreated on our first encounter. Anything which is our first encounter of a joyous understanding becomes a sacred favourite.
Such good points…especially “cannot be easily satisified…” part. For me, I’m easily disappointed by the real and its people. But like Hadestown, I keep replaying the story in hopes “this time” it will turn out better. Cheers, Uncle Ray!
Sing it out, Uncle Ray! I’ve been singing along to the Hadestown cast recording for the past week. If you’re not familiar, I think you would enjoy it. Mixing Greek myths, jazz, bluegrass, and Black spirituals with modern musical theater. My kind of pastiche!
I wasn't familiar until you mentioned it. Jazz, bluegrass and Black spirituals are too American for my taste. But in any case, the opera Orpheo ed Euridice doesn't spark my flame much either.
The original Greek myth came to me with my reading the Greek myths at the age of ten. I am not drawn to watching The Odyssey -the Imax cinematography might be great but it will not match my ten-year-old imagination and emotions.
My sense is you would love Hermes and Persephone in the musical. As for The Odyssey, I’m with you (and the translator who criticized the screenplay) that the film can never meet my great expectations. The epic tale is always going to be better in my head. Cheers!
Lately, whenever I need to read something written by someone with a good attitude and bright outlook on life, I read one of your posts. Guaranteed to lift my spirits on the more challenging of days. You're a ray of sunshine damnit! 😂🌈
Awwww, R. Michael, you’re so sweet. I struggle some days to find the silver linings, but I’m a stubborn mfer, so I do my best to find something positive to share. Most days anyway. Human. :-p Cheers, my dears!
Good job, Clint. Taking the holistic approach to self-care. It's never too early or too late to care for ourselves. I really don't care how long I live, but I do care that I have quality of life. While I am slowing down, and I can't do many of the things I used to do, I'm still able to get around pretty easily. About your back... most guys I know who are as tall as you have back problems. All the best to you!
Thanks, Mr. Yule! Yeah, my chiro and I are winding down our visits for a bit so I can afford a regular massage therapist. Once I find one. In addition to being tall, I had an accident when I was a kid that really fucked up my back. Who knew I’d be dealing with it 45+ years later? Alas, life is good. Cheers!
Since Haagen-Dazs is on sale here I bought a pint of New York strawberry cheesecake ice cream although this pint was only 14 oz , I think Haagen-Dazs cures a lot of problems. It's cold and creamy.
Mmmm…now I need some Haagen-Dazs while revisiting Queer as Folk. Is that the British or American version? It’s been so long since I’ve watched either! Cheers…. 🌈✌️
Clint. Maintenance is important. People often say “Age is only a number. You are only as old as you think you are. “ but I add “True. But sometimes the body has a mind of its own. “ I have discovered that as one gets older. the body makes choices on its own without asking your permission. I now have ailments I never thought of. I have become my parents. If I had realized this sooner. I would have taken care of my self differently. Fondly Michael
As someone who’s also facing the realities of some not-so-great self-care, I too wish I had paid attention sooner. Sending much love and big hugs your way. Keep on keeping on, my friend! Cheers…. 🌈✌️
Go Brian Go! Knock the ball outa the park. I got my dental issue resolved today. Yippee. I take an anticoagulant medication and my regular dental practice won't perform certain procedures that could involve bleeding. They usually refer me to a specialist practice. The(NHS) referral dental practice told me it would be up to 6 mths wait. That's why I was in a growly mood yesterday or so. So I ended up going off the NHS to another specialist dental practise and paying for the treatment. Optical and dentistry services in UK are the only non fully covered service under the NHS perhaps that's a Copay in 🇺🇸This anomally has never been addressed when the NHS was being created. Normally today's NHS charge would have been under £30:00 but it cost me a lot more today 😟 as a private patient. Enough now of tales of woe. Cheers DougT 🏴🇬🇧
Well, despite having to pay out of pocket, I’m glad you got your issue addressed and it sounds like you’re doing much better. Sometimes, it’s worth the extra dough just to breathe a sigh of relief. Cheers, my dears!

Keep hoping until the enjoyment fades. [smile]
I love a good him, too. Also, a good her. Harmony is the key, dear, and we should sing from the same songsheet.

I agree with your re-interpretation of self care. The comments here agree and perhaps you are preaching to the choir and the choir are singing back.
I do love a good hymn, when sung in harmony. Cheers, my dears!

Thanks Clint. Probably many of us have seen the first season episode of QAF where Michael goes to the chiropractor. I'm just saying.
The Rolling Stones had a song called Star Star because they couldn't say fucker on the original record or on the radio. No problem live though:

US series I think S01E05 IMDB is no longer what it was
Thank you kindly, Steve! It’s been added to my (re)watch queue. Cheers!
