A very good write up and yes, the Glass House, but so much more! He was quite handsome as a younger man.

So, so much more. It’s true, Larry. And Mr. Johnson was quite a dapper dude. Cheers!

Part2. Now a real story, an aunt by marriage and her young dentists husband were very early 60's modernists and Avant garde. They bought a plot of land along with several other professionals who designed and built individual homes. Margaret and Jacks was on the steepest slope so it was living and balcony terrace on top at ground level and bedrooms to the lower level. The whole upper living wall was total sliding windows. Double glazed too which was such a new concept in the 60's. Their home became a poster house for the double glazing industry used in marketing etc. My dad was called in to help dig out the tree stumps for the whole plot, along with others roped in for the heavy work. In fact the 4(I think) homes would have been contenders for a Frank Lloyd Wright mention ✅ Cheers DougT

Love it, Doug! I wonder what the neighbors initially thought. And how many of them wish—today anyway—they had such an architectural wonder like it. Cheers and thanks for sharing!

Aloha Clint, I slipped up by not adding Margaret was my aunt's sister and I can never figure out how to edit messages on here. Don't forget this was in the early swinging beat nick 60's, Jack was a newly qualified dentist. They had Vespa scooters for transport. Jack started his dental practice and he had to move onto real vehicle transport and he bought a very early Citroen ID19 car (Google them if your unsure) They still stayed in the avant Gard lifestyle and hung about with the modern jazz crowd and were good friends with George Melley, maybe even attended his notorious parties? It's sad but on Google maps a few of those houses in the Court have been 'modernised' to be bland inconspicuous property. Jack eventually got interested in Steam driven road transport and they sold the house and bought a close by farm house so he had room to keep, repair his steam engines. They eventually had a son in later years and both Jack and Margaret have since died. My aunt Mona, Margaret's younger sister was also a stunner in looks and personality too and I can remember one favourite mind image of Mona in a new coat of the late 60's It was a sort of cape coat with just the one button closure at the throat, beaver lamb collar with deepppp wrist turn ups in beaver lamb. Very sort of Audrey Hepburn vibes 😎 It's strange how something sticks in your mind/subconscious and lasts forever. Also uncle Dick(Richard) my blood uncle was as much a character as Jack and Margaret. He used to be in the merchant navy sailing all over. To a young impressible boy like me he was exotic telling tall tales and bringing mum stuff from all over when he stayed with us on shore leave. I can still remember the time when staying with us when he met aunt Mona and Margaret at the town fair (carnival 🇺🇸 ?) and he must have blagged mum to let Mona and Margaret stay at ours as they lived in another town and no late night buses etc. Dang I'm getting too nostalgic now, but what memories. Enough now, Cheers DougT 🇫🇴🇬🇧
