Studio Saturday is here againāmy day to unplug, recharge, and let creativity lead the way. Itās the one day a week I allow myself to experiment without any agenda, and boy, do I need it this time around.
After several days of dodging unkind comments, people-phobic strangers on the internet, and the bots and bot-like bureaucracy of YouTube, Iām excited to have a āmeā day. Just playing, playing catch-up, and seeing where my creativity takes me.
But firstā¦a few random quotes/thoughts Iāve been doodling and noodling on:
āSLEEP IS THE BEST MEDITATION.ā
Dalai Lama
Me and the Dalai Lama need to have talk. I love meditation as much as the next gay agnostic liberal. But as a lifelong insomniac, the struggle to zen is real. Iām so happy to report I recently found a THC tincture that helps me get more consistent restā¦and only leaves me a little groggy the next morning. More sleep means less bad moods and more creative fuel. Iāve also reintroduced catnaps, disco naps, and midday siestas back into my life. They do my body, soul, and spirit good!āHATERS GOTTA HATE. LOVERS GONNA CELEBRATE!ā

Thereās always an army of loudmouth naysayers and negative ninnies online ready to put you in your place, rain on your parade, and/or ruin your day. Why?Because asshats think theyāre original and special. The outraged/outrageous keyboard terrorists/warriors of the world truly need to stfu and take several seats. But since they wonāt, Iāll keep blocking themāshall we play a game of Whack-A-Troll?āand go make more art. Aināt nobody got time for thatā¦or them.
āTHERE IS NOTHING MORE FRIGHTFUL THAN IGNORANCE IN ACTION.ā
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Remember when bigotry and ignorance were shunned? Long before reality tv āpoliticiansā and social media āinfluencersā helped turn the world upside down, education and facts were (mostly) respected. Iām ready for historyās pendulum to swing back and course correct what now passes for public discourse. We used to be able to disagree without being so damn disagreeable. The outrage is (mostly) performative and I think a very special episode of Ripleyās Believe It Or Not! would do us all a bit of good.
So, whatās on the docket for this Studio Saturday? Itās a mix of this, that, and other thing(s). Maybe Iāll finish a montage I started the other dayā¦full of ginger men. Or perhaps Iāll dive into some new experimentsācolor, form, something abstract.
One thing Iām definitely gonna do is add some new designs to my new Spoonful shop. Most probably donāt know, but I love pattern and print design. One of the earliest Collide Press shops (on Zazzleā¦now closed) sold custom fabrics. So Iām going to revisit (and likely revise) some designs. Hereās the one design I have for sale so far:
The goal of Studio Saturday is to play, to let go, and to see where the day takes me.
Time to get this party startedā¦thanks for reading!
