Studio Saturday is here again—my day to unplug, recharge, and let creativity lead the way. It’s the one day a week I allow myself to experiment without any agenda, and boy, do I need it this time around.
After several days of dodging unkind comments, people-phobic strangers on the internet, and the bots and bot-like bureaucracy of YouTube, I’m excited to have a “me” day. Just playing, playing catch-up, and seeing where my creativity takes me.
But first…a few random quotes/thoughts I’ve been doodling and noodling on:
“SLEEP IS THE BEST MEDITATION.”
Dalai Lama
Me and the Dalai Lama need to have talk. I love meditation as much as the next gay agnostic liberal. But as a lifelong insomniac, the struggle to zen is real. I’m so happy to report I recently found a THC tincture that helps me get more consistent rest…and only leaves me a little groggy the next morning. More sleep means less bad moods and more creative fuel. I’ve also reintroduced catnaps, disco naps, and midday siestas back into my life. They do my body, soul, and spirit good!“HATERS GOTTA HATE. LOVERS GONNA CELEBRATE!”

There’s always an army of loudmouth naysayers and negative ninnies online ready to put you in your place, rain on your parade, and/or ruin your day. Why?Because asshats think they’re original and special. The outraged/outrageous keyboard terrorists/warriors of the world truly need to stfu and take several seats. But since they won’t, I’ll keep blocking them—shall we play a game of Whack-A-Troll?—and go make more art. Ain’t nobody got time for that…or them.
“THERE IS NOTHING MORE FRIGHTFUL THAN IGNORANCE IN ACTION.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Remember when bigotry and ignorance were shunned? Long before reality tv “politicians” and social media “influencers” helped turn the world upside down, education and facts were (mostly) respected. I’m ready for history’s pendulum to swing back and course correct what now passes for public discourse. We used to be able to disagree without being so damn disagreeable. The outrage is (mostly) performative and I think a very special episode of Ripley’s Believe It Or Not! would do us all a bit of good.
So, what’s on the docket for this Studio Saturday? It’s a mix of this, that, and other thing(s). Maybe I’ll finish a montage I started the other day…full of ginger men. Or perhaps I’ll dive into some new experiments—color, form, something abstract.
One thing I’m definitely gonna do is add some new designs to my new Spoonful shop. Most probably don’t know, but I love pattern and print design. One of the earliest Collide Press shops (on Zazzle…now closed) sold custom fabrics. So I’m going to revisit (and likely revise) some designs. Here’s the one design I have for sale so far:
The goal of Studio Saturday is to play, to let go, and to see where the day takes me.
Time to get this party started…thanks for reading!
