It’s been one of those weeks. A string of sleepless nights spent doomscrolling through the news, keeping an anxious eye on the wildfire ravaging parts of Southern California.

Wondering if nature’s chaos is about to come knocking on my door has left me feeling bitchy and glitchy. Not an unfamiliar combo for me, but one I don’t recommend.

To alleviate some of the anxiety, I found a little peace in my iPad. Instead of letting my brain melt under the weight of “breaking news” and fire alert, I started creating some video art—visual meditations featuring abstract colors, patterns, and shapes dancing across the screen. Nothing planned or polished, just pure, raw expression.

For the glitchy, rainbow spiral video above, I turned to CapCut to find some music that fit its soothing and strange mood. The result isn’t groundbreaking, but it was exactly what I needed: a reminder that all art—no matter how small or experimental—is a form of therapy.

Sometimes the best way for me to process overwhelming feelings is to scratch my creative itch…to let my mind splatter light and motion across a screen, even if the world outside is literally on fire.

While not a cure-all, art therapy gives my monkey mind something to do. It may not end the sleepless nights, but it can stop the doom-scrolling. At least temporarily, giving me a chance to catch my breath and find a little peace in the chaos.

So if you’re feeling a little off-kilter, I recommend creating something—anything.

Let the art do the heavy lifting, even if it’s just for a moment.

Thanks for reading and watching!
