Itās early Saturday morning. For most, itās a day of ārest.ā
For me, itās a day to play in my studio.
āStudio Saturdaysā are my time to pause, to reflect, to research, and to stretch.
My creative practice is as close to a spiritual practice as I have, so that might explain why I usually wake up early on Saturdays. (Not that I donāt most days, but Iām more excited about it on Saturdays.)
So whatās āthe planā today? Well, I have some doodling and noodling to do about social media. This blog/newsletter post is part of that process, a rough sketch.
One of our younger YouTube subscribers recently emailed to ask why we werenāt posting on TikTok and Xitter. He seems to think reposting Shorts I already make for YouTube might help reach an even bigger (and younger) audience.
On YouTube 90+% of our audience is male and over the age of 45. We love connecting with so many fellow āelderā gays.
For the record, I think some consider anything over 30 elderā¦kids!
Since my goal is to share more LGBTQ+ art, history, and love via our montages, his suggestion is a good one and got me to thinking:
Despite my previous decisions (and experiences), I know social media is always changing and evolving. So Iām okay about changing my mind and at least giving both platforms another.
Todayās agenda involves taking a closer look at the current state of TikTok and X/Xitter. And posting some of those recent Shorts on both.
The ultimate goal is to get folks to our Shop + Site and/or our YouTube channel.
I might also experiment with editing some of our existing Shorts to better suit TikTokās and Xitterās formats. Maybe adding some catchy music, captions, or even voiceovers. Itās all about finding that sweet spot where our content feels fresh and engaging, regardless of what platform itās on.
Last night, I got a head start by posting and scheduling some posts on TikTok. By end of the day, I plan to have a few posts on X too.
While we have few followers on either platform, it all part of the experiment. And Iām keeping an open mind about the results. Maybe this second chance will lead to new opportunities and connections we hadnāt considered before.
Studio Saturdays are about growth and exploration, and, regardless of how they go, todayās social media experiments will likely lead to new ways of creating our work and sharing it across the the internet.
Hereās a quick summary of all our current social media accounts:
