A few weeks ago, I threw my hands up while trying to learn Final Cut Pro.
Publicly, I gave up. Basically, I said, “Nope. Not for me.”
Apple’s popular (and professional) video editor felt confusing, complicated, and more than a little intimidating. Ironically, many pro editors and filmmakers consider it one of the easier programs to learn.
So privately, I kept trying. Clicking around. Testing things. Watching a few tutorials. Going back in and trying again.
Like a dog with a bone, I just could not leave it alone.
Eventually, some things started to click. Not everything, but enough that I was starting to understand how it works and how Apple thinks about video editing.
That is when it hit me: Everything has a learning curve!
Some just come with a few swerves.
When I was younger, learning felt easier. My brain soaked things up faster. But as I have gotten older, learning curves feel a little steeper. Sometimes I have to circle the proverbial airport a few times, try again, and approach the runway from a different angle.
But I still love a good challenge. Especially when it comes to technology. Because, well, I’m a nerd like that.
Every now and then it is good to stretch my mental muscles and remind myself that I can still figure things out. Maybe not instantly. Maybe not perfectly. But eventually, and well enough.
This old dog can still learn a few new tricks.
Sometimes it just takes a little persistence and a bone worth chewing on.
Keep calm and keep curious!

P.S. I’m still using CapCut for Substack and YouTube videos. Until I feel comfortable moving everything over to Final Cut Pro. Wish me luck!
