We are primates. We run on feelings more than logic or rationality - concerned by tribalism, competition over resources, alpha status, aggression. Also caring, empathetic and so on ...
We are bright but we learn slowly in taming our animal natures.
I hope and trust in evolution but it won't happen in my lifetime.
Over on a site called "Peak Prosperity," the gent who runs it shows that economic activity tracks 95% with energy use. What's going on now doesn't look like increased energy use. Over on a site called "Ecosophia.net," the guy who runs it looks at cycles, among many other things. BIG cycles, and others. Apparently, according to both of them, we're experiencing end of empire blues, when competence goes out the window until reality forces us to pay attention...again...to reality. It's kinda hard to stay upbeat while that's going on. As the signs in the London underground stations said: "Keep calm and carry on." Sometimes that's the best you can do.
Ohhh Brian, nothing I can really say that can change things. History happens but once the memory of history evaporates some new bright spark comes along and repeats history as they didn't live through that history. On that note I'll say no more as the UK is heading into its own distopian future. Time for the bright young things to have their 'influencer led AI technology futures' Cheers DougT 🏴🇬🇧 (crying into my 🍺🍻)
History is a shame. When we cycle, shouldn't we cycle to a higher level and cycle again but again to a higher level? Seems to not be working. And trump is forcing the cycle to take us back to lower levels of most things. Fondly, Feeling hopeless, Michael
May hope spring back to life and common sense bloom accordingly. I’m not quite hopeless, but I am giving it major side-eye lately. Keep calm and sending you cheers, Mr. Horvich!
