Clint, Do you realize how inciteful you are? As in: "Growing up doesn’t mean dimming your spark. It means learning where to shine it. It’s choosing peace over pettiness, grace over gossip. It’s realizing not every insult needs a response, not every rumor needs repeating, and not every online stranger deserves your time or energy. High school was about finding yourself. Adulthood is about defining yourself."
One of my husband (RIP) Gregory's favorite words: PATINA. We all have it, we just learn to look through the cracks to see it and to love that part of ourselves, the imperfect, the wounded, the rebuilt. I think the Japanese have the right idea: "Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold or other precious metals. The object is more beautiful and valuable after being put back together."
Oh jeez the generational gap......as a 60's 🇫🇴🇬🇧 kid HS proms (🇺🇸imported)were not even a glint in any educator's eye, just the end of year dance for the leavers. My HS was in an all male school, females invited from all girl HS's Nothing at all like 🇺🇸 films/shows like Grease. Trick or Treat is also another 🇺🇸 imported travesty 🥴 I'm showing my age I guess. HS was in a majority divided into religious groups, Protestant/Church of England COE with Roman Catholic all having their own educational schools. In those days there was a minimal presence of other religions to be catered to and everyone got along. It was only in higher education that the mix in beliefs, creeds, melded. This is only a snapshot of the 🇫🇴🇬🇧 way of life of that period in time. Present times, well.......that's a different kettle of fish. Cheers DougT 🇫🇴 🇬🇧
Hadn’t even thought of the fact homecoming is likely a very American tradition, tied as it is to (American) football season. Now proms? I think those are more universal. And both are boring. My mom made me go to both my senior year. I think just so she had some photos of me posing with women. I dunno why she was amazed when I got dates so fast to both…most of me friends were female. lol As for religion, I skipped all of them. :-p
Yuppers Clint, the world revolves, changes happen but I have to say I grew up in more stable times, I could weep at how the times are a changing. Now just go and enjoy that short cruise. Cheers DougT

Thanks, Michael. Just trying to call it as I see it. Or at least have experienced it so far. Feel free to call out anything I’m missing. Cheers! :-)
You are not there yet ... but "Old Age is about accepting yourself".
Just call me a “work-in-progress.” Complete with patina…and a lack of patience. :-p
