HERBERT LIST
October 7, 1903 – April 4, 1975
Herbert List is one of the masters of 20th century photographer.
Born in 1903 in Hamburg, List initially worked in the coffee trade, but his passion for art quickly took over. By the 1930s, he was experimenting with surrealism, creating dreamy, staged scenes that played with light, shadow, and geometry.
After fleeing Nazi Germany, he traveled across Europe, capturing the architecture, landscapes, and people of the Mediterranean. His work often focused on the male form, blending classical beauty with a modern twist.
In the 1950s, List joined Magnum Photos, building a portfolio that ranged from portraits of famous artists to stunning street photography.
List’s photos merge fantasy and reality, and his use of light, form, and timeless composition continues to inspire photographers today.

Mr. List had a unique eye. I approve.
Oh, and could we pick up the guy at 1:39 on the next DeLorean trip?
Very nice, and from this I conclude that a great many of his photos are full of feeling, something black and white is especially suited for. Thanks!
That fella at 3:30 looks dreamy.
Mr. List knew what he was looking for. :-)
The fella at 1:00 needs my company.
I thought you mentioned liking the blonde guys. :-)
I do, but that isn't hard and fast.
