Old Dog + Old Format = New Tricks
With our YouTube channel’s growth continuing (at a more reasonable and sustainable pace), me and the crew continue to doodle and noodle on new ways to expand our abilities and express our creativities through The Queer Gayze playlist and series.
The video above, A Few Good Men #1, was made from GIFs collected from around the internet. Some are new-to-me, but many are old favorites I’ve kept for years.
Even though GIF is an old and outdated format (and many say we should stop using it altogether), its popularity continues on despite its shortcomings. Likely because of its keep-it-simple simplicity.
GIFs are so easy anyone can make and use them. No extra code. No player required. No audio or buttons to worry about. WYSIWYG. On any browser/device that’s able to view a basic webpage. Can’t say that about HTML video or the popular MP4 format.
GIFs ARE typically much larger (with less color fidelity and resolution) than MP4. I compare it to VHS quality on old 2” reel-to-reel videotape. But I’m an old dog. Analogies help me.
While CapCut, my video editor of choice, can work with GIFs, for the love of my Google and hard drives, I converted my entire collection to MP4s.
Tools For Fools (Like Me)
Any Video Converter = GIFs to MP4s
Handbrake = Optimize MP4s (optional though recommended)
GIFFlash = MP4s to GIFs (in case you wanna turn back time)

Our recent playlist on youtube is kind of a twist on similar vintage photos, yet set to modern Pride related music. Celebrating the wonderful vintage photos from the 1900s that, quite frankly, could have cost many of the people posing in them more than just their jobs. We must. never forget the progress made since those photos were taken. The purpose of our slide show is to celebrate Love in all of its forms, the progress and the heroism, yet also shine the light on the fact that over 50% of the world is still not enjoying the LGBTQ freedoms and progress made in the West.
