Thank you for this information about cruise lines. Ever since you suggested Vacations to Go, I've been dreaming about taking a solo cruise, somewhere from the West Coast. I think I would prefer one of the smaller ships, but having never been on a cruise, I really don't know. Enjoy the terra firma now that you're home.
You’re most welcome, David. I hope my limited experiences helped. As a first time solo traveller, I would suggest considering a Norwegian cruise. They have inside solo rooms and you can find deals on regular balcony rooms too. I prefer the later personally. What I like about the cruise is they host daily Solo Cruiser meetups. I didn’t go to many, but it was always a nice way to socialize when I wanted. And there were some amazing folks on the Norwegian Bliss when I went. Reach out if you have questions. Cheers!
I’ve never been on a cruise. A friend told me to look at Virgin Voyages and my immediate reaction was, “Absolutely not.” It looked less like a relaxing holiday and more like a floating hen do with better lighting. That said, I’m still weirdly keen to try a proper cruise someday. Life vest under my arm, obviously.
Yeah, I’m with on Virgin Voyages. Several friends have recently recommended I take a look at Celebrity. More expensive than I usually go, but there’s usually deals to be had. Also, there’s a number of European-only cruise lines that seem really nice. When the time’s right, I wish you a wonderful first cruise!
And don’t forget it’s a theme park too! :-p I prefer smaller ships, but definitely like some of the extra options on the megaships. One of these days, I need to cruise to Europe. Or Asia. Or both.
I have enjoyed cruise documentaries on TV. Down the Danube from one end to the other. Norwegian fjords. Down the Nile from Alexandria to Luxor. IF (big if) I were to consider such journeys, I would rather book such a trip on a small vessel with few other passengers. I did something along such lines visiting Greek islands for a week in the middle week of a three week holiday in Greece.
A small ship cruise of the Greek islands? Sounds like heaven to me. I look forward to someday soon being able to book one of those. For now, I’ll stay home and work on reducing the frequency of my anxiety attacks.
I will uncomfortably say that I am glad that you feel anxious. It tells me that stuff that you have tried to ignore is rising to the surface demanding to be worked upon. Don't fear fear, dear. The anxiety is coming from the child within. You are a big boy now, the adult you can handle it.
We haven't been on any of those cruise line as we mostly take Celebrity and get a lot of perks because of it. (We're going on a British Isles cruise this summer on Celebrity.) We've also been on MSC in Europe which we were underwhelmed by. We've also been on Royal Caribbean which, if I remember correctly, was a mostly gay cruise and pretty crazed! We've also been on the Queen Mary 2 through Cunard. A bit too formal for my taste but we met a lot of fun people.
I hear Celebrity is worth investing in. And that MSC and Cunard would not be my cups of tea. Wish I could join you on the British Isle cruise. I think I’m going to take a break and work on some projects the rest of the year. Maybe. Unless I find a great deal I can’t turn down! :-p Cheers, Dan!
Brian I don't have any modern cruise experience but my Bro and SIL do. All I have is the cross channel ferry to France before the channel tunnel was built. Bro is on the special offers list with P&O cruises as he's cruised so much with them. They have cruised several times to the Norwegian Ffiordes as well as the Carribean. As you know cruises are far from my wish/to do list 😵💫 So Brian, cruise on! Cheers DougT 🏴🇬🇧
Cheers, Mr. Doug. If cruising ever appeals to you, I encourage you to go. I’d it doesn’t, I encourage you to stay home or pursue whatever makes you comfortable and happy. Life is too short for homework and shoulds. Much love and light always! 🌈✌️😘
Clint, So it looks like all have plusses and minuses. I have never been on a cruise, am mostly claustrophobic about being in the middle of no where on a floating city with 2,000 of my closest friends. Glad it appeals to you but I'll take my chances as a small B&B or guest house in a small Mexican town. P.S. I speak fluent Spanish! Fondly, Michael BON VOYAGE
Travel is definitely a personal choice/decision. No one-size-fits-all in my book. But because of my big-n-tall status, I prefer cruising to flying. At least until I get back to my fighting/flying weight. 🤪👻😘
🚢 🛳️

I watched a YouTube video on the world's largest cruise ship - Icon of the Seas - and was blown away by its size. It’s a mall and resort at sea!

Appreciate the words of encouragement, Uncle Ray. I’m about to head to my first session and see if we’re a match. Cheers!

No worries. See how it goes. We are going with friends at the end of July. However, as you know, there are plenty of cruises out there!
