In early November, fearing my aging-but-trusty iMac was on the verge of crashing, I upgraded to a small-but-mighty Mac mini.
“Jr.” became my new go-to for all my projects and “Mac” was repurposed as a media and streaming computer. All was well in the world…until yesterday.
While moving “Mac” to a new location, I discovered the iMac had suffered a near-total operating system failure—the digital equivalent of a mental breakdown.
I wasn’t exactly surprised, but I was more than a little sad.
Yes, it’s just a computer. But for nearly a decade, “Mac” was my handy-dandy helper—always there, always ready, willing, and able to do whatever needed doing at a moment’s notice. Way more than I can count on or expect of anyone or anything else.
In many ways, “Mac” knew me better than anything or anyone else. And now, it not only didn’t know me—it didn’t even know itself fully.
I tried diagnosing and repairing it using Apple’s various apps and utilities, but haf a feeling the only real solution wiping the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. A full and total reset.
Long story short, on what would have been Steve Jobs’ 70th birthday, I now have a “new” 2015 iMac, freshly restored and ready for its next chapter as a digital assistant, file manager, and photo-scanning workhorse.
In some ways, I wish I could reinstall my own mental operating system—erase at least some of the hard times and start over fresh, without all the extra baggage.
But then again, I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything…especially now.
Despite some technical difficulties, life is good. And getting even better by the day.
Wishing you a good day and week ahead…

“When you're young, you look at television and think, there's a conspiracy. The networks have conspired to dumb us down. But when you get a little older, you realize that's not true. The networks are in business to give people exactly what they want.”
Steve Jobs
“My model for business is The Beatles: They were four guys that kept each others' negative tendencies in check; they balanced each other. And the total was greater than the sum of the parts.”
Steve Jobs
“It's not the tools that you have faith in - tools are just tools. They work, or they don't work. It's people you have faith in or not. Yeah, sure, I'm still optimistic I mean, I get pessimistic sometimes but not for long.”

My MacBook Air is probably my most prized possession.
Glad you got it going again! I have been working with macs for a really, really long time, and I love using the Mac Pro I now have (and an iMac). When I was teaching, I had to use a Microsoft computer that was supported by technical support that was only two doors away from my office, and I was always relieved when I was in the classroom and could use my Mac pro for lectures :-).
