It’s rare to have rain here in sunny Southern California. It’s even rarer for me to sleep in past 7am. So this is shaping up to be a rare and wonderful Studio Saturday. The kind of morning that feels like the universe is tapping me on the shoulder and whispering: Time to slow down, Clint. Time to relax, relate, and release.
There is something about waking up to the sound of soft rain that resets my system and slows down my world. Days like this remind me why I love having a home studio, able to sink into my world while the weather does its pitter-patter thing outside my window.
My plan for the day is simple: Catch up on admin and emails. Make progress on a few new montages. Read and research some new possible projects. Nothing too intense. Just enough to feel productive and still available to take a nap as needed.
The rain feels like creative permission. Permission to take my time. Permission to be a little messy. Permission to experiment without the pressure to turn everything into a masterpiece. Some days the muse whispers. Today she is whispering from under a blanket with a cup of hot tea in hand, telling me to play and see what happens.
Studio Saturdays have always been about that easy energy for me. Not perfection. Not hustle culture. Just showing up for myself and for the work that lights me up. Even if the progress is slow. Even if the final product is something only I will ever see. Every sketch, every layer, every little experiment helps refill the creative well.
The rain is still coming down in buckets as I type this. My studio apartment is warm. And for the first time in a while, I have a full day stretched out in front of me without errands or guilt about not doing more.
If the weather wants to stick around for a bit, I won’t complain one bit.
Keep calm and stay dry!

Thanks Clint and Ed Asner 🌧☔🌈🌂⛈🌦☂🏳🌈🌈 I was mad at the Lyric Opera when they started doing one musical a year, since there are many other venues for that, until they got to West Side Story, in the year of Leonard Bernstein's 100th birthday. It was so successful that they brought it back. Thank you, Renee Fleming and Antony Freud. Somewhere https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmVs41w8BA4 RT 04:51
